Net Zero

Generally speaking, net zero buildings are buildings that produce as much energy as they consume.  This can be measured in a number of ways, however one of the most common is on an annual basis.  This means that over the course of an entire calendar year, the building creates as much energy as it consumes.  This can be accomplished through a variety of means, from heating the structure by utilizing passive solar technologies, installing energy efficient lighting and appliances, as well installing a photovoltaic system.   All of these techniques can play a direct role in helping to make a building net zero.
